WEB / VISUAL DESIGN

UX ENGINEER / DESIGNER

NETFLIX

Abstract

This was one of the first projects I was given at Netflix, and while I had successful feedback, my design direction was never finalized.

Design Objectives

  • Use a different design and branding language to differntiate from the main site
  • Create a landing page that promoted the culture and vision of Netflix
  • Design the department pages and job listings
  • Develop the front-end UI utilizing HTML/SASS/JS and Ember.JS and Bootstrap frameworks

Header

One of the ongoing discussions we had with stakeholders was whether we could pare the site down to two main pages. We chose to do that and move the search field into the Job Openings page.

Netflix Culture

Initially, I had suggested surfacing a few of our values at the forefront, followed by a link to our Culture Deck. Eventually we decided to remove those excerpts so as to not confuse users of how many values we have.

Header and Culture Sections

Netflix Vision

My first design of this section included a grid layout of the goals of the company. We decided later to shrink this section with 3 goals that the user could select on the left and read the related description on the right.

Netflix Life

To showcase the culture of Netflix, I had initially suggested a slideshow to display our different events and traditions. We changed this section to focus on how much we value diversity, as it was an important issue the stakeholders wanted to address.

Life and Vision Sections

Social Media

The original job site included a news feed that pulled from Google.
We removed this and included a dynamic instagram grid showing our latest posts.

Social Media Section

Job Openings

Scrolling the landing page or switching to Job Openings would animate the header height to be shorter, using Waypoints.JS. The Job Openings landing page included a grid of "umbrella categories" with departments listed. Each department had its own designated route with related links and job listings.
