Enterprise UX

WORKSHOP / UX EVANGELISM

SENIOR DESIGNER

NETFLIX

Abstract

Whenever I attended a UX conference or workshops, I would apply what I learned to the work we were doing in the enterprise Netflix studio team and I would present the takeaways to the team. This was meant to elevate the importance of UX in enterprise apps and to evangelize UX across the org to both designers and non-designers.

Role & Objectives

  • Sole presentor and workshop facilitator
  • Attended a Silicon Valley Igniter meetup to learn about disruption in tech and presented methods on how to advocate for user-centered design in enterprise
  • Attended a workshop by Nir Eyal on the "Hooked" method and applied learnings to enterprise products

User-Centered Design in Enterprise

This presentation was a result of attending a local Bay Area meetup with entrepreneurs where I learned about how to challenge conventional ideas and push for disruption in a slow-moving industry such as enterprise.

TAKEAWAYS

  • Breaking down how to make the argument for user-centered design and win the argument helped my team understand the underlying arguments that they need to consider
  • "Making the argument" required understanding the problem and the end-users in order to understand the value of their idea
  • By comparing the rows of action items from each column, it showed that "winning the argument" was possible with the right method and approach
  • The team was excited and inspired after this presentation. They felt equipped to frame their strategy using these guidelines.

Building Habit Forming Products

After attending workshop I created this presentation as a recap of what I learned about the "Hooked" method and how to apply it to the products we were building in the Enterprise team.

TAKEAWAYS

  • With each part of the "Hooked" method (ie. trigger, action, reward, investment), I tied it back to how these are seen in enterprise products and environments.
  • Using examples people are familar with such as Facebook and Pinterest made it easier to present the method in terms they understand
  • While the "Hooked" method is often tied to consumer products, I talked about how it still can be applied to enterprise problems by looking at the emotional triggers that effect user's everyday lives at work
